TURN THAT CLASS UPSIDE DOWN 2: THE SEQUEL

Hello y'all!

Today we're going to create another Flipped Clasroom video but this time we will teach a grammar point. If you haven't read my last post and wondering what a Flipped Clasroom is, click here to read it.

This time, I paired up with my friends Esma and Ayşenur. You can click on their names to see their beautiful blogs.

Together we chose a grammar point from the prep school English textbook our professor provided us. We decided to teach Relative Clauses. After choosing the grammar point, we examined the unit the grammar point was introcuded in. The unit was about the Digital Era. So we looked for ways to integrate this to our video.

Our video takes places on padlet, you may remember it from my padlet post. We created a padlet wall that was supposed to be the teacher's an her students asked the teacher to explain the Relative Clauses. We used the vocabulary that was introcuded in the unit and even paraphrased some sentences from the book so the video would give the students a sense of familiarity.

After we wrote our script and prepared the wall, it was time to film. While Esma was recording her screen as one of the students, I and Ayşenur wrote the comments like it was an actual conversation.

Once the filming was done, we recorded our lines and them edited the footage. That was the most challenging part as the apps we used kept messing up with the quality. In the end we landed on Kapwing

We uploaded our video to Edpuzzle to add some open-ended question. The questions come up during the video to enhance the learning and give the students a chance to practice.

Here's our video;

We also created an activity for our students to do after watching the video. The activity focuses on the differences between the relative pronouns that we introduced in our video.

Teaching a grammar point was relatively harder than teaching vocabulary as vocabulary is easier to back up with visuals. Yet I liked this activity nonetheless. You can click here to read my thoughts on Flipped Classrooom Approach. As usual, feel free to leave your comments.
'Till next time!
